“Obsession can be a mental illness, but it is also the cure, at least for a lost soul searching for the highway to hell” - Abdul Vas
Contemporary artist Abdul Vas launched his second book on February the 25th; titled as sort of ‘homage’ to AC/DC’s 1990 song ‘Thunderstruck’, the new book includes artwork on the Rolling Stones, AC/DC, Metallica, Slayer and more… edited by Mexican curator Gerardo Contreras and released by the American Preteen Gallery. There will also be an exhibition that takes the book’s title in both London and Madrid.
Those who know Vas, are well aware of his obsession over AC/DC - his main source of inspiration for his oeuvre - manifested on his endless tributes to the band, both on paper and him attending every, if not all, the band’s concerts.
With his main source being rock n’roll, baseball, and American trucks, some might find weird and peculiar for Vas’ to find inspiration in chickens as well… Kippenland is his kingdom of poultry which he uses to create a mythology of rock legends. “Here they dwell in a universe of bird-faced creatures who adore AC/DC and become more devoted fans with each passing minute” - Artishock author Ben Zandberg. Chickens are considered sacred to many cultures, much like AC/DC is considered sacred to Vas.
You will witness this passion slash obsession at Abdul Vas’ solo show and his book Thunderstruck.
